Ancient Vishnu Temple

Sacred Muktinath Mandir situated at an altitude of 3710 meters above sea level in Mustang district Nepal. Muktinath temple is a very famous holy shrine of both Hindus & Buddhists of the world. This temple located on the route of famous Annapurna circuit trek just below the mountains Thorong-La Pass. This temple is constructed in the pagoda style and it is considered as a symbol of the religious similarity between Hinduism and Buddhism. Muktinath is one among the most ancient Vishnu Temple. There are two holy water ponds in front of Muktinath Mandir. Laxmi Kunda and Saraswati Kunda. It is believed that by taking bath in these ponds the ‘negative karma’ gets washed away. Close to the Muktinath there is a Jwala Mai temple with three eternal flames inside Gompa.

According to Hinduism this is the place where Lord Vishnu got salvation from the curse of Brinda. Hence he is worshipped here as Muktinath the lord of salvation. Devotees believe that this shrine have risen on its own. The temple is surrounded by 108 cow faces through which holy water is poured. Muktinath temple is one among the eight such Vishnu shrines. Muktinath Temple is also one among the 108 Vaishnava shrines. The snow-covered Annapurna range is on the backdrop of this temple. Upper mustang area and Tibetan Plateau is in the north of the temple.
